What we do

Five services, done properly

Most people start with the fertilization program and add from there. If you only want the lawn cut, that's fine too.

We've never advertised much. The work goes in, the sign goes out front for a week, and the next call usually comes from two doors down. If a lawn on your street looks better than yours, there's a decent chance we did it.

The six-step program

A lawn doesn't need the same thing in April that it needs in August

Six visits across the season, each doing a different job. Weed control comes with all six.

  1. 1 Early Spring

    Get ahead of the crabgrass

    A pre-emergent goes down before soil temperatures hit the point where crabgrass germinates, alongside the first feeding and broadleaf weed control. This round is about timing more than anything else.

  2. 2 Late Spring

    Thicken it up

    A second feeding while the lawn is growing hardest, with weed control to catch anything that broke through the first round and to stop new weed seed from setting.

  3. 3 Early Summer

    Build the color

    High-potassium fertilizer for deep color and heat tolerance heading into summer. Surface insect control is included at no charge with this round.

  4. 4 Midsummer

    Hold it through the heat

    A balanced, time-released feeding so the lawn is fed slowly through the worst of July and August rather than pushed. Free liquid aeration comes with this round to get water and nutrients moving through compacted soil.

  5. 5 Late Summer

    Clean it up

    Targeted feeding and a heavier weed control pass while the lawn recovers from summer stress, so it goes into fall dense and weed-free.

  6. 6 Fall

    Feed the roots for spring

    The most important round of the year. A nutrient-rich fall feeding goes into root storage over winter, which is what produces an early, even green-up the following spring.

What does it cost?

It depends on the size of your lawn, so we quote it rather than guess. Call (734) 365-3197 with your address and we can usually give you a number on the spot.

Is the mosquito and tick program safe around pets?

Yes. We use all-natural, pet-friendly products, and we treat the shaded harborage areas rather than broadcasting across the lawn where the dog actually lies down.

Do I have to sign a contract?

No. The six-step program is billed per round as we go. If you want to stop, tell us and we stop.

What if a round does not work?

We come back and re-apply it at no cost. That has been the deal since 1992 and it has not changed.

Do you cover my town?

We cover downriver Detroit — from Lincoln Park through Rockwood and Carleton, west to Belleville and every community in between. That is 30 communities across southern Wayne and northern Monroe County. If you are near the edge of that, call and ask.

When should I start?

Early spring is ideal because round one is timed to beat crabgrass germination. That said, a lawn started in July still finishes the season better than one that was not started at all.
